Comedy improv champions The Showstoppers kicked off their month-long residency in the Hall’s Elgar Room on 4 February 2013 with an all-singing, all-dancing show created on the spot based on audience suggestions.
This unique show starts as the audience are invited to pitch their creative ideas, before The Showstoppers agree on a theme for the evening’s musical entertainment; then follows 90 minutes of comedy theatre, with the 6 members of The Showstoppers and their live musicians developing the unscripted story on the spot.
Following several suggestions from audience members, the room collectively decided the improvised story would be set in the boardroom of Barclays bank – naturally the project soon generated the title of FTSE-Loose.
The show that followed featured moments ranging from the hilarious to the bizarre, as the impromptu performance was developed on the spot by The Showstoppers. A capacity Elgar Room audience roared with laughter on this unique evening as they witnessed the first (and quite possibly last) performance of The Showstoppers’ FTSE-Loose.
“The Showstoppers will bring out your giggly side, the inner-child that used to laugh at the classroom show-off – the one who did spontaneous impressions of the teacher. You’ll be tempted to go and see it more than just once.”

“Get yourself a ticket for an evening of fun, in the world premiere of a brand new musical every night, which is influenced by you, and only you. A masterpiece will be born and put to bed right in front of your eyes. What’s more exciting than that?”
