Simply Red headlined at the Hall on a number of occasions, first performing here between Thursday 29 June & Sunday 2 July 1989, following the release of their first #1 album A New Flame.
They twice returned to the Hall. Firstly for 3 nights in October/November 2005 on their Simplified Tour, with support from vocalist Amy Smith, and then as part of their Stay Tour for a mammoth 6-night residency from 24-31 May 2007, with support from New Jersey-based band Rushmore.
Mick Hucknall has also made several appearances at the Hall as a solo artist, including at the Grand Prix Party: Stars, Cars & Guitars on 12 February 2002, an event hosted by Carol Vorderman and Tony Jardine, which also featured Jools Holland and an All Star Band including Ronnie Wood and Formula 1 stars Damon Hill and Eddie Jordan.
Hucknall performed some songs by Cole Porter in Refugee Voices for Darfur, a fundraiser event on 8 December 2004, held for the victims of the conflict in Darfur. This concert also featured Chrissie Hynde, Roisin Murphy, David Gray and many others.
He also sang at Helping the Heart of Music, celebrating 75 years of PRS for Music Members Benevolent Fund, performing solo and joining The Faces to sing their hit Stay With Me.
His most recent appearance here came on 28 June 2011, when he joined blues legend B.B. King on stage in a concert that also included Slash and Ronnie Wood.
