Judo was a regular feature throughout the 1950’s and 1960’s. The first tournament took place on 19 March 1951, featuring demonstrations, matches and even an invitation to the audience to have a trial lesson!

The National Judo Championships of 1963 was held at the Hall.

Events organised by the British Judo Council at the Hall welcomed over 800 competitors and many martial arts masters from all over Europe to take part in demonstrations of Kendo, Aikido, Karate and Judo. One of the highlights was a demonstration of Nage-no-Kata (formal throws) by Mr Abbe and his colleague from the Butokai, Mr Haku Michigami in 1964.
